SAMPLE Q &A
Where were you born?
A: I was born
in Greenville, South Carolina. I attended
college and completed graduate school in North Carolina. However, I have spent my adult life in
Greenville, South Carolina.
Where did the idea for this book come from?
A: I have
always enjoyed reading the biographies of famous historical figures and studying
history. When I attended college I took
African American studies courses. During
this time, I began to read about the Reconstruction era. Most of the information was in African American
anthologies or in history books. I wanted
to learn more about this era and began to imagine what life most of have been
like during this time. I kept a notebook and began writing essays in
college. This curiosity led to this
book.
What made you decide to self- publish?
A: When I began
writing this book, I was employed full time and had other commitments and
obligations. Therefore, the flexibility
of writing the book when I had the time and the flexibility of not having to
meet schedule deadlines and obligations was attractive to me.
Do you have another
project in the work?
I have ideas for novels in my mind. However, the ideas are not written at this
time. I would love to write a science
fiction novel.
What writing styles
do you imitate?
A: There are many authors that I enjoy
reading. However, I do not imitate
anyone. I like to relax and share myself
and observations with others without concentrating on technique and style.
Why is this book relevant?
A: This book is
relevant because it addresses a significant historical event. The ending of slavery and the events that
immediately followed. There are many
books and films that address slavery, Jim Crow, or segregation. However, not many novels present the Reconstruction
era. Also, Ma Lil traces a
fictional family from reconstruction to the civil rights. The audience
for this book could include those who enjoy reading historical fiction as well
as those who enjoy romance and general fiction.
What is your writing background ?
A: As a
graduate student at the University of North Carolina, my graduate departmental
paper was published in 1986, Mixed
Use Development as a Revitalization Tool In Areas of Urban Blight and Decay
: The Greenville Commons in Greenville, South Carolina. This
was a technical trade paper and of course not a work of fiction.
Where can a person find a copy of your work?
A: My book is available at the following links at Amazon
and KDP :
